Lycanthropes are shapeshifting creatures and some of the most dangerous monsters that Monster Hunter International (MHI) has ever faced.
Description[]
A lycanthrope is a human who has the ability to change into a hybrid of a human and some other animal. The most well known lycanthrope is the werewolf. Lycanthropes experience a 'hum' or 'surge' around the full moon that compel them to transform. Most lycanthropes feel homicidal rage constantly and will transform when they lose control of that rage, regardless of the phase of the moon. Only the most controlled lycanthropes with strength of character can avoid losing control.
Origins[]
The first lycanthrope was the werewolf. The werewolf was created when humans tried to harness the weapon created by Asag. Asag, the great corruptor, took a normal wolf and twisted it to be a weapon for him. The resultant demon-wolves were a scourge on the earth. Humans tried to harness the spirit of the demon wolves in order to use Asag's weapon against him[1]. They captured one of the great demon-wolves alive and performed a 3-day ritual during the full moon, using a special amulet to separate the demon-wolf's spirit from its body and to fuse it with the spirit of their greatest warrior. The ritual failed, however, and the spirit of the demon-wolf overpowered the spirit of the warrior, creating the first werewolf.
Werewolf[]

A werewolf is created when a human becomes infected with an agent found in the saliva of another werewolf. This agent must be introduced directly into the bloodstream in quantity in order to cause the mutation to human DNA[1].
The werewolf side manifests approximately monthly during the full moon when the werewolf loses touch with its humanity and becomes a ravening beast, intent on eating and/or destroying any living creature in its path.
Weaknesses[]
Lycanthropes can heal unnaturally fast, making them capable of sustaining large amounts of damage without dying. They will die if they sustain enough damage, they require blood pressure to keep functioning, but it takes a lot of effort to get to that point. However, lycanthropes cannot heal unnaturally fast from a silver wound, meaning that silver weapons. (such as bullets) can be used to kill them. Lycanthropes are also vulnerable to fire[2].
